Brisbane Area

The Historic Motorcycle Club Queensland, Brisbane Branch, is a passionate community of members founded in Brisbane and surrounds. The Brisbane area can trace its roots back to the formation of the Historical Motor Cycle Club of Queensland on 27 September 1970. The first meeting was held at Oxley, in Brisbane with members from all over southern Queensland in attendance.

We are an active Area holding regular meetings, workshops, and events where members can socialize, ride and display their machines and exchange the full range of knowledge and skills related to motorcycle restoration, mechanics, and history.

Meetings:

The Brisbane Area retains one of the largest HMCCQ area memberships with some 265 members and meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at the Veteran Car Club rooms at 1376 Old Cleveland Road, Carindale.

Activities:

The club organizes frequent rides, exhibitions, and shows that allow members to proudly display their restored vintage and veteran motorcycles to the public. These events provide a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to connect with members and the general public, share stories, and promote the love of historic motorcycles to future generations.

Annual Events:

During the year we run a number of specific events including:

The Breakfast Run

Our opening event for the year which is scheduled for the second Wednesday in January most years. Many members ride their bikes to and from the event, bringing breakfast along to be cooked at the communal barbeque. Purely social and to start the year we don’t usually have a scheduled ride although the inclusion of a ride is being considered for future years.

Chairman’s Run

As named, the chairman nominates the event venue and destination each year. Normally a one-day event including a half day ride to suit as wider range of bikes as possible. Scheduled early in the year, the Chairman’s Run is run before Easter in most years.

Girder Fork Rally

For vintage and veteran bikes alike. Held at Lowood in recent years, due to good amenities and proximity to a variety of quiet country roads this is an opportunity for the older bikes to come together.

Cracker Dirt Rally

Scheduled around June each year, all lovers of early dirt bikes are welcome to join in. Always well supported by the two-stroke fraternity, it is a chance to relive those youthful years of adventure riding and sliding through the bush. Catering to a more sedate pace the event takes in several days of spectacular dirt tracks through the south west or northern NSW. With a support vehicle in close reach, good food and drink are never far away.

Taverners Scenic Rim            –

A gentle ride through spectacular countryside at the end of July. Currently based out of Aratula in July, the event covers two days with rides customized for the age of bike and numbers. Sunday is normally a shorter version. Great amenities and good catering make for a very sociable and enjoyable weekend.

Centurion Rally

Highly successful event using the “Centurion” formula. i.e. Bike plus rider age exceeds 100.

Bringing together riders and bikes of all ages, this event is popular with numbers often exceeding 100 bikes and riders. A longer ride on Saturday with a shorter ride on Sunday makes a great weekend.

Pure Earth Rally

Our final dirt event for the year offers lovers of two stroke fumes and long travel suspension, a chance to experience spectacular scenery and good company for the weekend. Currently held out of Jimna Base Camp near the beautiful Conondale National Park the event is always well attended.

We also have a large number of subgroups who sponsor regular rides to suit all vintages and styles of bike so no excuse to leave that bike in the shed whatever your age, mount or experience.

Regular Runs and Events

The Taverner's Group meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. Affectionately known as the “think tank”, members meet at 11:00am to nurture ideas and activities beneficial to the club in a relaxed atmosphere with time for discussion. Always followed by a sociable lunch with partners family and friends and often taking in visitors from other areas. All are welcome.

Monthly Night ride/dinner. Following Monday night from the normal area meeting.

Well, it’s really all about the dinner given the luminary performance of veteran lighting and electrics.

The hardy members ride, while their partners and other members make their own way to join in at a rotating venue chosen for its atmosphere, standard of food and convenience. A popular event where many a bike related issue has been solved and new friendships made.

Dave’s Tuesday Mountain ride to Mt Glorious for pre-1974 drum brake machines.

Departs each week from The Gap bus car-park at 10am sharp.

About an hour out and an hour back with everyone relaxing with coffee at the café at Mt. Glorious. Often a dozen or more machines take part and ranks grow as riders from Samford Valley and as far as Ipswich converge on the café from their respective directions, making it a great ride and regular social event.

Harry’s Heroes on Wednesdays (2nd Wed. of the month is a long ride) and Sundays leaving from Ransome service station corner of Green Camp Rd. and Molle Rd at 9.30am sharp.

One of the clubs longest running rides started by Harry Daw, an early member and successful midget speedway racer, some 30 years ago.  A good number of our senior members have been regulars for the last 20 odd years. Destination is mostly the Jetty Café at Redlands with an occasional change to Mount Tambourine. The cohort is flexible so all bikes are welcome although one ride each month is reserved for genuine older vintage and veteran steeds. The ride proves popular to this day with a good number of our newer members joining in and carrying the tradition forward.

Wednesday ride to Victoria Point from Cornubia leaving from the BP. Service Station near the corner of California Creek Rd and Beenleigh-Redland Bay Road at 9:00am sharp

All bikes included with the destination being the beach at Victoria Point just past the ferry terminal. A number of partners and friends join in for a social chat and an occasional BBQ on the public facilities. Wet weather doesn’t deter with members retiring to the bakery where shelter is plentiful.

Back to the 70s, 2nd and 4th Thursday each month starting at Dayboro Bakery at 10.00 am.

A good length ride for the more modern bikes with two and four strokes enjoying equal status. Covering several hundred kilometers and a different route each time, time is made for lunch and coffee with riders from all clubs making up the numbers. Routes are published in advance on the Facebook page. Popular with all, especially younger members.

Robs ride weekly to Jacobs Well, on Friday leaving from the BP Service Station near the corner of California Creek Road and Beenleigh- Redland Bay Road at 9:00am sharp.

This is indeed about the ride with nice level country and gently winding roads though the sugar cane country. Great for new and experienced riders and machines alike. Meeting in the carpark at the boat ramp at Jacobs Well for a BYO morning tea and coffee. Popular across the full range of machines and riders.

Facebook:

Our active Facebook page coordinators provide a continuous stream of photos and content from our recent events. Increasingly, social media is our source of reminders and information on upcoming events and dates.

Library:

A number of rare volumes from all eras are included in our growing library. From veteran to the 80s, all ages and makes are catered for.

Manuals, parts books, pictorials, biographies and brand specific publications are a boon to researchers and readers alike.

Through their dedication to preserving the past and promoting the camaraderie among members, the club continues to play a central role in ensuring that the legacy of these wonderful machines and their riders lives on for generations to come.
