BURNETT AREA. 1989 - 2023

From humble beginnings in 1982 a group of motorcycle enthusiasts got together and called themselves the “Bundaberg Motorcycle Club”. David Dettmar attended that first meeting.

In July 1989 they joined the HMCCQ and became known as the “Burnett Area”. Ten people attended the initial meeting, Geoff Coglan was the chairman, Brian Coney and Geoffrey Trew are still active members These old buggers are still attending meetings and riding old bikes. [They think they are bullet proof.]

At the present time, we have about 65 members with about 20 members that take part in rides etc. Burnett Area is a very active club with local rides and participating in local car and bike shows.

Meetings

We hold regular meetings on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm. Our present meeting place is 80 Woongarra street Bundaberg.

Main event for the year:

The Burnett Area Easter Rally. This rally attracts about an average of 40 participants, mostly camping and staying four to five days at our present site. We always receive compliments about the food and hospitality.

Another feature is the Bike Show on the Saturday morning organised by Jeffrey Zunker, In 2022 there were 80 old machines. In 2023 this grew to 103 motorcycles.

Our regular monthly rides:

  • Our regular meeting place is the car park in Quay street. [any change will be advised] The Saturday after the monthly meeting. We meet at 1.00pm and leave at 1.30pm.
  • The third Sunday is our slow ride and is suitable for all bikes because of its limited speed. We meet at 8.00am and leave at 8.30am. The last Sunday is normally a long ride on main roads. Meet at 8.30 am and leave at 9.00 am.
  • Every Wednesday is a social ride to the Burnett Heads pie shop for smoko at 8.00am.
